Top 10 Engineering Colleges:
1. Indian Institute of Technology, Madras
Madras tops the list. IIT Madras was formed in 1959. It is counted among the top educational institutions not only in India but in the world. It has about 550 faculty, 8000 students and 1200 administrative and support staff. It is spread over an area of about 250 hectares.
2. Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi
Delhi ranks second in the list. It was built in 1961. Since then IIT Delhi. It has been included in the best institutions of the country. After its establishment, the institute was declared as an institution of national importance under the Institute of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963 and was renamed as ‘Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi’. In addition to engineering, students graduate in many disciplines, including physics, management, and the humanities and social sciences.
3. Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay
IIT Bombay ranks third. It was founded in 1958. Many such celebrities have emerged from here, who have made the country famous all over the world. IIT Bombay is the first IIT to be established with foreign aid. It received financial help from UNESCO in the form of the currency of the then Soviet Union, the ruble. In 1961, Parliament declared IIT as the ‘National Institute of Importance’.

Kanpur is ranked fourth in the list. It was founded in 1959. It was established as a collaboration between the US and India. It has emerged as a leading Indian technical institute focusing primarily on research and undergraduate education in science and engineering.
5. Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur
Kharagpur is ranked 5th among the top 10 engineering colleges. It is the oldest IIT institute, established by the Government of India in 1951. The Government of India has officially recognized it as an institution of national importance. It was established after independence to train the country’s top scientists and engineers. It has the largest area in all IITs in India. Along with this, the number of departments and students is also the highest here.
6. Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee
IIT Roorkee ranks sixth on this list. It was formerly known as the College of Civil Engineering at Roorkee (1847 – 1853). It was later renamed Thomson College of Civil Engineering (1853 – 1948), University of Roorkee (1948 – 2001) and in 2001 renamed the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. This institute is counted among the top engineering institutes in the world.
7. Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati
IIT Guwahati ranks 7th in the list of engineering colleges. It was founded in 1994. It is the only IIT in the Northeast. The educational program started here in 1995. Currently all major engineering and science subjects are covered within this institute. The institute’s campus is spread over an area of 285 acres.

8. Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad
IIT Hyderabad ranks eighth in this list. It was founded in 2008. He is one of the second generation of IITs. Its foundation is based on research and innovation. Today the institute offers programs in all branches of engineering, science, art and design.
9. Indian Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli
IIT Tiruchirappalli, one of the top engineering colleges, was established in 1964. It is an institution of national importance and is one of the 21 IITs proposed under MHRD’s non-profit public-private partnership (PPP) model.
10. Indian Institute of Technology, Indore
IIT Indore was established in 2001. Initially its classes were held at Devi Ahilya University’s Institute of Engineering and Technology, but since 2016 it has been held on its own campus which is located in Simraul. It is one of the 8 new IITs set up by the central government.
