Which stations will be included?
Under station development in MUTP, 11 stations will be from Central Railway and 8 stations from Western Railway. These include Bhandup, Mulund, Shahad, Neral, Kasara, GTB Nagar, Govandi, Mankhurd, Kandivali, Mira Road, Vasai, Nalasopara and Virar. Mumbai has 119 suburban stations. Most of these stations are 80 years old and crowded.
A senior MRVC official said that all the stations should be developed in terms of passenger facilities. The area of the station premises has not increased in 80 years, but the congestion has increased. The length of the trains has been increased from 12 coaches to 15 coaches and the length of the platform has been increased, thus reducing the commuting area for the passengers. Stations will be developed with this in mind.
Need to improve soon
It has become imperative to increase the commuting area for passengers in the stations. For this, elevated decks like Borivali and Andheri stations will be constructed. All available at this station will be linked with FOB. The entry and exit system at the stations will be strengthened. About 16 stations need FOB, elevated deck, skywalk, restoration of service building, restoration of stalls and kiosks, increase in green area at stations, lighting and other electrical facilities.
Agreement with the bank
The project will be funded by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Along with station development, MRVC is going to build high-tech car sheds on the Western and Central Railways. For this, land acquisition work has been started in Bhivpuri of Karjat and Vangaon of Palghar. This car shed will be built here. Rs. There was talk of building such a car shed in MUTP 3A with a budget of Rs 33,000 crore. The decision to make them was taken in 2019. Parking, maintenance, inspection, repair etc. will be done in this car shed. Given the current situation, 35 hectares of land will be required in Vangaon of Western Railway and 55 hectares in Bhivapuri of Central Railway.
